Carolina Mudcats (80-60) 7, Tennessee Smokies (62-77) 4
Zebulon, NC --- Carolina scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 4-4 tie and go on to defeat the Tennessee Smokies 7-4 at Five County Stadium in front of 4,736 fans in the regular season finale.
Brett Sinkbeil pitched five innings for Carolina, allowing just two hits and one run. Todd Doolittle (W,5-3) earned the win for Carolina, pitching the eighth inning, allowing one run on one hit. Chris Mobley (S, 28) pitched the ninth inning for Carolina to earn the save.
Mark Holliman pitched six plus innings for Tennessee, allowing six hits and three runs. Holliman was taken out of the game after a lead off walk in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The lead was exchanged for the final time in the bottom of the eighth inning when the Mudcats plated three runners gain the lead for good. The inning was highlighted by a two-run home run to left field from Alberto Concepcion. Concepcion went 3-4 in the game and earned 3 RBI.
Carolina will head to West Tenn for the Southern League North division playoff series. They will play games Wednesday and Thursday at West Tenn before coming home on Saturday to continue the series.
