** Jesus Delgado selected to play in MLB Futures Game **
Zebulon, NC – Carolina Mudcats RHP Jesus Delgado has been selected to play in the annual XM Satellite Radio Futures Game on Sunday, July 13th at Yankee Stadium.
Delgado, a member of the Florida Marlins 40-man roster who has split his 2008 season between Carolina and Triple-A Albuquerque, represents the only Marlins' minor leaguer to be named to the game. Delgado, a Venezuelan, will be playing for the Wolrd Team.
Delgado is 4-1 with a 4.67 ERA over 22 relief appearances for the Mudcats, while appearing in six Triple-A games. Delgado was originally signed by the Boston Red Sox, but was acquired by the Marlins in the November, 2005 deal that netted Hanley Ramirez, Anibal Sanchez and Harvey Garcia in exchange for Josh Beckett, Mike Lowell and Guillermo Mota.
Delgado is part of a seven-player contingent from the Southern League heading to the Futures Game, joining Huntsville Stars Mat Gamel and Matt LaPorta, Chattanooga's Chris Valaika, Jacksonville's Ivan DeJesus, Montgomery's Eddie Morlan and Mobile's Gerardo Parra.
Delgado continues Carolina's tradition of Futures Game representatives joining Jeremy Hermida, Bill Murphy, Rick Vanden Hurk, Chris Coghlan, while Cameron Maybin played in the last two Futures Games as a member of the Detroit Tigers organization.
